First year Orientation Program with Parents

St. Joseph's Evening College (Autonomous) organized an Orientation Program for the First Year students and their parents on 9th June 2018 at the St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School auditorium. The MCs for the evening were Ms. Shilpa Nataraj from the Department of English and Ms. Yamini from the Department of History.
The Dignities for the day were Dr. Albert Smith (Principal, St. Joseph's Evening College (Autonomous), Dr. Priya (Vice Principal, St. Joseph's Evening College (Autonomous), and Rev. Fr. Arun D'souza SJ, Director, St. Joseph's Evening College (Autonomous). The program began by invoking God's blessing with a reading from the Holy Bible followed by a hymn 'You are my all in all' by our college choir. The Co-ordinator, Mr. Prashanth Kumar (Department of Economics), lead the dignitaries to light the lamp. Ms. Varsha, from the Department of Commerce, welcomed the parents and students.
Mr. Prashanth Kumar then requested students representing various streams along with their parents to come forward and plant a sapling below the picture of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It was a sign of dedicating themselves to the College. The dignitaries watered the plant as a symbol of nurturing their growth.
Rev. Fr. Arun D’souza addressed the gathering in Kannada. He used the following quote, ‘The tree should be healthy to bare fruits', and spoke about the history of St. Ignatius of Loyola and our College.
The Principal, Dr. Albert Smith, spoke about the College and briefed the students about activities, both extra-curricular and co-curricular. He wishes that the students ‘Dream Big, Aim Big and Vision Big.’
Ms. Dorothy from the Department of Commerce gave the vote of thanks.
The Vice Principal, Dr. Priya, took them through the Vision, Mission and Objectives, followed by the rules and regulations of the College, and ended with an interactive section with the students and parents.
A dance performance by our students from 2nd and 3rd years was very enthralling.
Mr. John Bosco, the Controller of Examinations, briefed the audience about exams, courses, and the CIA (Continuous Internal Assessment).
Mr. Ashlon from the Department of Psychology spoke about the Counselling Cell and how important counselling is in our lives.
Mr. Dav Fod from the Department of Sociology briefed them about the various Clubs and Associations.
Mr. Diwakar, Head of Department, Department of English, spoke about the function of the Placement Cell.
The program ended with a meeting of class mentors, students and the parents.
