On March 24, 2021, St Joseph’s Evening College (Autonomous) in collaboration with Indian Social Institute organised a guest lecture on “Youth for human rights”at L-Hall between 7:15 p.m to 8:45 p.m.
The speakers for the day were Dr Paul Newman, HOD, Dept of History, SJEC and Fr Joseph Xavier SJ, Director, Indian Social Institute. More than 200 students participated in the lecture. Dr Paul Newman spoke about the various instances of human rights violation in the country. Dr Newman shed light on manual scavenging, cow vigilantism, custodial deaths, honour killing and atrocities against Dalits, and violence against Adivasis.
Fr Joseph Xavier highlighted the plight of Dalits in India and the contentious issues with the CAA bill.
