The Department of Commerce, St. Joseph’s Evening College organised a national Webinar on “Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for Business Application” on October 18, 2020. The objective of the webinar was to create awareness and exposure on data science and artificial intelligence applications and to facilitate the identification of career opportunities for students in this field.

The webinar was held on the e-platform Google Meet and simultaneously streamed live on Youtube. Mr Joswin Prince Rodrigues, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Commerce, SJEC welcomed the participants. The session began with Prayer by Ms Dorothy Deepa, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Commerce, SJEC. Mr. Ravi Richard, Head, Dept of Commerce introduced the topic and welcomed the resource person Mr Avi Shrivatsava, Associate Consultant, KPMG services.

Mr Avi Shrivatsava explained the importance of data for any organisation these days and its use for optimising business processes, and maximising the resources and this is facilitated by data science and artificial intelligence. The resource person with live examples explained integration of data science with business applications. He stressed on topics such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning, churn analytics and visualisation.

Mr Shrivatsava presented information of the ways in which data science with specific domain knowledge can help the businesses in analysing large chunks of data. For instance, he explained as to how data science is being used for customer segmentation by presenting the process to the participants.

The presentation session was followed by question and answer session. The participants took part actively. Mr. Avi Shrivatsava emphasised that students can be trained by using tools such as Qualtrics, Power Bi, Tableau that would definitely add value to the students’ profile.
