World environment Day

On June 5th 2018, St. Joseph’s Evening College in collaboration with AICUF and the Harmony Association held a programme in the college quadrangle to celebrate World Environment Day. This year in particular is an important year for the country as Dr. Harsha Vardhan, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Erik Solheim, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Head of UN Environment, jointly announced that India will be hosting the Global World Environment Day with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

The programme began with a street play conducted by the college theatre group. They spread awareness on the importance of keeping our streets clean and refraining from throwing waste on the streets.

After this play, Dr. Albert Smith, the Principal of SJEC, spoke to the students about the importance of our environment. He highlighted the idea of doing ‘one green deed’ in order to make our world a greener place to live in.

The programme ended with the screening of a documentary on the environment and how we must be more aware of our actions and how they affect the earth. A slogan writing competition on the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ was also announced. The students were encouraged to participate and play a role in preventing further pollution of our planet.
