On July 21, 2017, the final year B. Com students were treated to an informative seminar on the Implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India.
The honored guest speaker Mr. Manjunath N., Senior Research Fellow (SRF), Department of Commerce, Bangalore University was welcomed by Mr. Balaji of the Department of Commerce to engage the students on the much-debated topic at hand: GST.
After a brief introduction to the several types of taxes, Mr. Manjunath went on to talk about the various taxes that were levied prior to the game - changing GST policy. He then spoke of the meticulous and prolonged planning that led to the implementation of GST.
This was followed by a comparison between the previous and present tax structures, and the pros and cons of each of them.
A detailed presentation on the impact of GST on various sectors of business followed. To conclude the program, Mr. Manjunath brushed up on the salient Features of GST and its implementation.
The informative and thought-provoking seminar was officially concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Esther, a final year B. Com student.
