A Guest Lecture on “The Good, Bad and the Ugly of the Cyber World” by Dr. Mohan Sunil Kumar (Consultant Psychiatrist and Founder-Director, Augmenta Health Pvt Ltd, Bangalore) was held on February 3, 2018, from 7 pm-9 pm at St. Joseph’s Evening College, L-Hall, organized by the Department of Psychology.
The session commenced with a brief introduction about Dr.Mohan Sunil Kumar and a welcome speech by Mr. Ashlon Noronha, HOD, Department of Psychology, followed by a sapling given to the resource person as a souvenir.
Dr.Mohan Sunil Kumar spoke about the positive and the negative side of the internet. He spoke about how lifestyle has been changing since the introduction of smartphone devices and emerging technology and how pressure and depression is increasing due to that. He also spoke about how digital imprints, cyber bullying and trolls, selfie deaths etc have made life more challenging. Games like Blue-whale challenge as well as television series like 13 Reasons are very influential and have great impact on kids and adolescents in the present day. He also spoke about how technology can be consumed effectively and efficiently. The session concluded with a Q&A session and a vote of thanks by Juanita Solomon.
