St. Joseph’s Evening College in collaboration with St. Joseph’s College and Bank of Baroda
organised a National Conference on the theme, ‘Dakshin Bharath Mein Hindi: Dasha aur
Disha - Condition and direction of Hindi in South India’ at St. Joseph’s College on February
10, 2020.
More than 200 delegates participated in the conference. Two students from SJEC, Ashish
Dubey from III B.com and Kailas from I BA JPS presented a paper in the seminar. HOD of
Hindi Department from St. Joseph’s Evening College, Mr. Nagaraj EM also presented a
research paper in the seminar, the paper was about Hindi and politics in South India. He also
was a moderator for two consecutive sessions.
Speaking to Springlight, Mr.Nagaraj EM said, “There is a perception among people that
South Indians are reluctant to learn Hindi as a language. But that is not the case. They do not
have anything against the language but they have an issue when it is forcefully enforced on
them. This conference was to take a stock of progress of Hindi as a language in South India.”
Kailas, a student from SJEC who presented the paper said, “It was a great experience
presenting the paper for the first time. Since I was presenting the paper for the first time I was
a bit nervous and also very excited to go on stage and present the paper. More than this,
listening to those great personalities who have done a lot for our Hindi language, inspired
us.”
Resource persons for the seminar were Dr.Saraju.R from Hyderabad University, Mr. Pawar
from Kerala University and Mr.Babu from Pondicherry University.
