This year the Independence Day was celebrated virtually at St Joseph’s Evening College
(Autonomous). The Hindi Parishad and NSS conducted a range of activities, under the leadership of
Prof. Nagarajan EM, HOD, Dept of Hindi and Dr Balaji M, NSS officer and Asst Prof, Dept of
Commerce, to commemorate the auspicious day.
Webinar: Freedom Movement in India
A state-level webinar, Freedom Movement in India was organised by Hindi Parishad in association
with National Service Scheme (NSS) on August 14, 20 through Google Meet platform.
The resource person for the seminar was Prof. Ravi Shankar, Former HOD, Department of History, St
Joseph’s Evening College. Prof Ravi Shankar took the participants through Indian freedom struggle
from 1857 to 1947. Prof Shankar explained the important events and influential people during the
freedom struggle. Nearly 250 participants from all across India took part in the webinar. “It was eye-
opener for many of us as the speaker spoke about our past and the struggle of freedom which was
inspiring in many ways,” said Prof Nagarajan EM, one of the coordinators of the webinar.
Independence Day Events
The Hindi Parishad organised Independence Day events such as riddles, poetry recitation, book cover
making, and translation on August 12, 13, and 14. The events were held online.
Online Quiz
An Independence Day Quiz was jointly organised by the Hindi Parishad, NSS and Student Council on
August 15, 2020.
