The National Constitution Day was celebrated by the Department of Humanities at St. Joseph’s Evening
College on 26 th November 2020. As part of the celebration, an online panel discussion on “Indian
Constitution’ was organized from 7.30pm to 9.00pm on MS Teams. The resource persons for the panel
discussions were Dr. Paul Newman, Head, department of History, St. Joseph’s Evening College, Dr.
Christopher Hoskins, Head, department of Political Science, St. Joseph’s Evening College and Ms. Pauline
Priya, Vice Principal, St. joseph’s College of Law, Bengaluru. The panel discussion was moderated by Mr.
Prashanth Kumar, Coordinator, Humanities, St. Joseph’s Evening College.
The panel discussion began with a prayer song by Ms. Shehela Ashirvad from 1 st B.A (HEP) followed by a
welcome address by Mr. Prashanth Kumar. After a brief introduction on the constitution day by the
moderator, the first panelist Dr. Paul Newman addressed the participants and spoke about the
background of drafting of Indian Constitution and the contribution made by Dr. B.R Ambedkar, the
chairman of the drafting committee to the Indian Constitution. The second panelist Ms. Pauline Priya
addressed the participants and explained the beauty of the constitution stating that the constitution is a
living document that provides opportunity for annihilation of caste and also provides equal opportunity
opportunities for all its citizens. The third panelist Dr. Christopher Hoskins emphasized on the
democratic process that was involved in the process of drafting the constitution and stated that the
constitution is a sacred document that has a set of rules and regulations that cannot be violated. The
panel discussion was concluded with a summary of the panel discussion by Mr. Prashanth Kumar
followed by a question and answer session. The program was concluded with the recitation of the
preamble of the constitution.
