On February 6, 2020 La-storia, Department of History in association with AICUF organised a panel discussion on the topic, ‘India Today: picturing, socio-economic and political realities from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The students of BA belonging to different streams attended the discussion.
The session was moderated by Dr. Christopher Hoskins, HoD, Dept of Political Science. The panellists of the session included, Dr. Albert Joseph Smith, Principal, SJEC; Dr. Kanishka, HOD, Department of BBA; Mr. Prashanth Kumar, Coordinator of Humanities, and HOD, Department of Economics; Ms. Indumathi S, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication; and Ms. Shruti Jain, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
Mr. Mahesha D.K, the organiser of the event welcomed the gathering. The Panellist, Ms. Shruti spoke about the present issues of the country, especially the situation of women and their problems. She also gave a glimpse into condition of manual scavenging in the country. Mr. Prashanth Kumar said, "There are two sides of India.” He presented both the good and bad that are present in the country, and shared information about economic situation with current statistics.
Dr. Kanishka attributed the present day problems to bad governance and ineffective leadership. He claimed that education is the solution for the problems plaguing the country. Ms. Indumathi S spoke about real development that was not only economical in nature, but took into consideration freedom, justice, equality and sustainable development which is in harmony with environment.
Mr. Albert Joseph Smith said, “We are ruled by majority where plurality is destroyed with hate and by deed, and finally defacto- ethnic democracy is lost.”
