The newly elected and selected members of the student council of St. Joseph’s Evening College for the academic year 2017-18 were taken for an innovative leadership training program to the Jesuit farmhouse at Solur, 60 kms from Bangalore. Five faculty members along with an external resource person, Mr. Elango Stanislaus, accompanied the students.
The training comprised of sessions on Leadership and Team work. The students were divided into two groups. Mr. John Paul, Department of Sociology, conducted a session on leadership for the first group of students. He conducted an activity which involved bursting a balloon, which was then related to leadership qualities such as protecting one’s team, thinking of others, being selfless, etc. Mr. Elango Stanislaus conducted a session on team work for the second group of students through a riddle game that emphasized the importance of team work. After lunch, each trainer conducted his session for the other group as well.
The students later visited an orphanage run by the Sisters of Charity in the village. The visit conveyed the importance of social service and made the students think how best they could be of service to society.
The training inspired the council members to work as a team and give their best as leaders for the academic year 2017-18.
