The inauguration of the Literary and Debating Association was held on 27th August, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Evening College. The ceremony commenced with a prayer song by the College choir followed by the lighting of the lamp by the esteemed chief guest Dr. Etienne Rassendren, (Associate Professor, Department of English, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Bengaluru), Dr. Albert Joseph Smith, Principal, St. Joseph’s Evening College, Prof. Diwakar, HOD, Department of English, St. Joseph’s Evening College, Prof. Jeffin Lijo and Prof. Shilpa , Staff Coordinators, Literary and Debating Association.
Professor Diwakar formally welcomed the chief guest Dr. Etienne Rassendren and introduced the topic “Culture, Literature and Film”. Dr. Albert Smith welcomed the guest with a sapling and a memento. He highlighted the significance of literary and debating association and he also encouraged the students to develop their love for reading and interest towards literature.
The topic of the session was “Culture, Literature and Film”. Dr. Etienne Rassendren stressed on the intersection of Culture, Literature and Film. He also stressed on the fact that there can never be only one culture but a diverse multi-cultured society. He highlighted that film is nothing but visual representation that aids to showcase an existing culture, and creates an illusion of a perfect culture or motivates a new culture. He concluded that it was the work of fiction that connected “Culture, Literature and Film”. Mr. Pramod, II MA English delivered the Vote of Thanks.
