Report on the One-day National Conference on Disruptions in Indian Business Environment: Challenges and Opportunities.
The Department of Commerce, St. Joseph’s Evening College organized for the first time a one-day National Conference on Disruptions in Indian Business Environment: Challenges and Opportunities. The conference objective was to provide a common platform to academicians, researchers, industry professionals, and students to showcase their research work and create a forum for effective exchange of ideas related to the theme. The college received a total of 107 Research Papers related to the theme and the Research papers were segregated based on sub-themes:
1. Banking, Finance, and Insurance
2. HRM, Marketing, and General Management
3. Accounting and Taxation
The Conference was held on February 17, 2018, at Faber Hall, St. Joseph’s Boys High School, Museum Road, Bengaluru. The Conference was inaugurated at 11:00 a.m. with a prayer song followed by our college anthem. Dr. H. Nagaraj, HOD, Department of Commerce, welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. Ramachandra Gowda, Registrar, Bengaluru Central University, was the Chief Guest. Dr. Mithileshwar Jha, Pro Vice Chancellor, Jain University, Bengaluru delivered the key-note address on the theme of the conference, highlighting various positive and negative aspects of disruptions over the past few decades. Rev. Fr. Anthony Joseph, SJ, was the Guest of Honor and the programme was presided over by our Principal Fr. Maxim Dias, SJ. The inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Joy Alex, Vice Principal, SJEC. This was followed by Technical Session-1 (Banking, Finance and Insurance) and Technical Session-2 (HRM, Marketing and General Management). The technical session was chaired by Dr. V. Rajesh Kumar, Founder of Vittam Praveena Gurushala. Asst. Professor Charles Ambrose, Department of Commerce, SJC was the rapporteur for the session. Technical Session-2 was chaired by Dr. S. Ramesh, Associate Professor, Mt. Carmel College, Bengaluru. Asst. Professor Dr. Rangaraj, MSR Institute of Management Studies, was rapporteur for the session. The gathering disbursed for lunch. Post-lunch, both the sessions continued and simultaneously Technical session-3 commenced. Dr. Usha Devi, Associate Professor, MLA College for Women, chaired the session. Dr. Ganesh. S. R., Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce, SJCC was rapporteur for the session. The Valedictory function started at 05:30 p.m. with a welcome address by Mrs. Priya, Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce, SJEC. Dr. M. Muninarayanappa, Professor, Chairman and Dean, Department of Commerce, Bangalore University, was the Chief Guest. Fr. Jason Furtado, SJ, was Guest of Honor and the programme was presided over by our Principal Fr Maxim Dias, SJ. Mr. M. Balaji, Assistant Professor, Department of M.Com, SJEC, presented the special report on the conference. The best paper was awarded to the following:
1. Mr. Girish B. N, Asst. Professor, GFGC, Frazer town for his research work in the area of Finance.
2. Sneha. N. Shiyal and Arti Garg, M.Com students of Mt. Carmel College for their research work in the area of HRM.
3. Anumala Kumari, M.Com student of SJCC for her research work in Accounting and Taxation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. John Bosco, Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce, SJEC.
