St. Joseph’s Evening College organized a one day National Conference titled “New Perspectives in Teaching English Language, Literature and Translation” on 25th September 2017. It aimed to meet the growing demand of English and related soft skills at various levels of education. The conference set out to explore and celebrate the tremendous diversity of teaching and learning approaches available to teachers and teacher educators across India. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Narahalli Balasubramanya, member of Karnataka Sahitya Parishad; Fr. Anthony Joseph S J, Rector, St. Joseph’s Institutions, Bengaluru; Fr. Maxim Dias S J, Principal, St. Joseph’s Evening College and Prof. Joy Alex , Vice-Principal, St. Joseph’s Evening College. The first Plenary session was chaired by Dr. Narahalli Balasubramanya and eminent educators like Dr. Savita Puri, Teacher Educator; Dr. Shivalinga Swamy, Tumkur University; Dr. Yoganand Rao, Jain University and Dr. Cheriyan Alexander, St. Joseph’s College. It was followed by the first technical session where more than 40 papers related to English language, literature and translation were presented. The second panel discussion was chaired by Dr. Rajaram and dignified educators like Dr. T.N.Raju, Teacher Educator; Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dravidian University; Dr. Ethien Rassendran, St. Joseph’s College and Dr. Christine Ann Thomas, Christ University.
The conference witnessed the presentation of 80 research papers from different states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram, Assam, and Gujarat. One overseas paper from Bangladesh was also presented which was a new feather to the crown. The conference was an infusion of over 300 delegates who came together as participants and were enlightened on the nuances of teaching skills and new perspectives which catered the objectives and the theme of the National Conference 2017. The conference ended with a formal valedictory programme and certificate distribution.
