This is a new year and a new beginning. Saturday, 2nd June 2018 marked the beginning of the new Academic Year 2018-2019. The inaugural Orientation Program was held at St Joseph's Boy's School Auditorium.
Ms. Nargees Fathima (Department of English), along with Ms. Vidya (Department of Commerce), were the MC's for the evening. The program started with a hymn "As the Deer" by our college choir and a prayer led by Sr. Saly Joseph.
The theme for this year is "Celebrating Education”. Mr. Dav Fod, the co-ordinator, led the dignitaries to the podium to light the lamp. Dr K. Kanishka gave the welcome speech and ended with a quote: “Coming together is the beginning, keeping together is progress, and working together is success.” Rev. Fr. Arun D'souza SJ, the Director of St. Joseph’s Evening College (Autonomous), and Secretary and Treasurer of the Jesuit Society in Bangalore spoke about newness, hope and life. He also spoke about the character of a Josephite and the objectives of our College: Academic Excellence, Character Formation and Social Concern. The Director's message was followed by the introduction of our new faculty members.
Dr. Albert Smith, our new Principal then delivered his address. He gave a warm welcome to the management and all the students. He stressed on the theme "Celebrating Education" and told us a short story entitled "Footprints in the Sand”. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Dav Fod.
Dr. Priya, our new Vice-Principal, took us through the Motto, Vision, Mission, and Objectives of the College and ran us through the rules and the regulations. This was followed by a skit performed by our students. It delivered a message on how helpful our teachers are in our College and the dedication and love they have for all students.
Mr. Diwakar then shed light on the functioning of the Placement Cell at the College. He encouraged students to come forward and avail of the opportunities given by the College. For the first time, IBM is recruiting from our College.
Mr. John Bosco, the Controller of Examinations, briefly explained how exams are conducted. He laid stress on the CBCS, which provides students with skilled-based courses. He introduced the new CIA pattern and asked the students to take the examinations seriously.
Mr. John Paul briefed us about the Clubs and Associations in our College and explained the importance of each one, including the ones at the department level. He helped the students understand how they work, explaining the activities and objectives of each of them.
