Syllabus Sociology

I SEMESTER

SEMESTER - 1
INDIAN SOCIETY


Course: 75 hours Preface: - The students entering this course are from different regions of India. There will be students who would have not studied sociology. There for, an introductory paper on Indian Society will enable them to learn Sociology and relate their learning to their own social realities. These students will be able to grasp the concepts when explained to them in the Indian setting. It is also the objectives of the Department that students should develop interest in Sociology.

Chapter-1: SOCIAL ORGANISATION: Pluralistic Composition – Religious Linguistic and Cultural Factors – Constitutional Provisions to Unity. (15 hours)

Chapter-2: FAMILY: Emerging trends in Indian modern Family.(10 hours)

Chapter-3: CASTE: Concept of Caste – Prominent features and challenges of Caste System – Contemporary situation -caste and Politics (20 hours)

Chapter-4: RURAL COMMUNITIES: Modern Indian villages- Social structure – Impact of Government measures on village Communities.(15 hours)

Chapter-5: TRIBAL COMMUNITIES: Concept of Tribes – Developmental Programmes and future of tribes and Dalits. (15 hours)
