On December 10, 2017 one of the much awaited events of the year, the Annual Sports Meet of St. Joseph’s Evening College, was held at St. Joseph’s Commerce College grounds. Mr.Shekhar Naik was the Chief Guest. The Meet was presided over by Rev. Fr. Maxim Dias, SJ, and Principal of the College.
The sports committee, with its indefatigable effort, set the stage for this event. The Meet began with the march past led by the sports secretaries of the college followed by each participating class which had a specific theme. Elton led us in prayer with an invocation song. The ceremony continued with the Chief Guest Mr.Shekhar Naik along with the Rector of Jesuit Educational Institutions Rev Fr. Antony Joseph, SJ and our beloved principal Fr. Maxim Dias SJ unfurling the flag. Fr. Maxim Dias SJ delivered the welcome address. He introduced Mr. Shekhar Naik, shared his achievements as an athlete, and shared his thoughts about the importance of sportsmanship, gave life-oriented examples, stressing on discipline and values as part of healthy competition, and ended his speech with an affirmation saying "if you win let it not get to your head, if u lose don't let it go to your heart". The oath was administered by the governor of the student council Mr. Prashant Kumar, which was followed by lighting of the Torch. The Sports Secretary proposed the vote of thanks, thus concluding the Inaugural Ceremony.
The track events of 100 meters, 4x100 meters relay, the Inter-Josephite Institutions Relay, 200 meters, inter- class tug of war and the playfulness of “Bombing the City” for the teaching and non-teaching staff were all wonderful to behold. In the midst of a sunny and bright day of sporting participation, loud, swaying and rocking music was played.
The Sports Meet concluded with great pomp and show, making it one of the best events of the entire year 2017. A delicious supper was organized. All the members of the organizing committee did a commendable job, especially the students of the final year under the guidance of Albert Smith Sir, the sports co-ordinator, to make the even successful and worth watching from beginning till the end.
