St. Joseph’s Evening College pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

On January 31, 2020 the students of SJEC paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi by organising an event to remember him and his principles. The event, Martyr’s Day that marks the assassination of Gandhi was organised on January 30, 2020 by the Post-graduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in AV room at 8:00 p.m.

The theme of the event was Gandhian principles and values. The main motive of the event was to not only share an insight into his principles, but to also apply the same principles in today’s world. The highlights of the programme included talks on Mahatma Gandhi, and a human tableau which was performed by the students of I and II year MA Journalism and Mass Communication. Dr. Kanishka, the IQAC co-ordinator and HoD of BBA, gave a talk on Gandhi and his significance. Dr. Kanishka entertained the audience with his wit and humour. He quizzed the audience about Gandhi, and gave an insight on the reasons why Gandhi is respected and honoured even today.

The Principal of SJEC, Dr. Albert Joseph Smith, made the students realise that it is not important to be violent to get justice, and stressed on the significance non-violence. He contexualised Gandhian Principles to the present day where the secular fabric of the country’s Constitution is threatened.
