Yakshagana

The SJEC campus experienced South Canara's oldest form of art on Monday, 19th November, when the Kannada Sangha of SJEC organised Yakshagana performance in the campus. Asst. professor of Kannada, Mr. Thygaraj, organized the event. It was performed by the team of "Siri kalaa mela" headed by Mr. Suresh Hegde. The students performed a yakshagana in the name "Dharmanga Digvijay" which was directed by Kum Arpitha Hegde. Yakshagana is a traditional theatre form that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up, and stage techniques with a unique style and form. This theatre style is mainly found in all parts of Karnataka. Yakshagana is traditionally presented from dusk to dawn. The story of Dharmanga Digvijay is drawn from the Ramayana. The Principal of SJEC, Dr. Albert Smith, the President of Kannada Sangha and the head of the Department of Kannada, Dr. Mathew, and professors of other departments and students of UG sections witnessed and also enjoyed the performances.
