4th International Yoga Day
St. Joseph’s Evening College (Autonomous) organised a function for International Yoga Day with the monitoring of NSS & AICCUF on 21st June 2018 in the A.V. room of the College. Mr. Prashanth Kumar, HOD, Department of Economics, welcomed the students, the Chief Guest Mr. Ramesh A.M., Dr. Albert Smith (Principal, St. Joseph’s Evening College (Autonomous) Dr. Priya (Vice Principal, St. Joseph’s Evening College (Autonomous) and the staff.
Mr. Balaji M., Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, started the session by asking everyone to stand for a moment of silence, and requesting the dignitaries to take their seats on the dais. He spoke about yoga and requested the Principal to address the gathering. Dr. Albert Smith greeted everyone and gave a short explanation about the history of yoga. He encouraged every student and teacher to make yoga a part of their routine to lead a heathy life. He then called upon the Chief Guest to deliver his address. Mr. Ramesh is a yoga instructor at Bangalore University. He has been awarded for teaching yoga in various places. He started the session by explaining the meaning of yoga, the history of yoga and the types of yoga. He chanted the prayer of yoga and made the students do some aasanas (exercises) and breathing exercises. The session came to an end with the vote of thanks.
At 7:00 pm, a video clipping was screened at the college quadrangle on the history, roots, role, and types of yoga, and the founder of Yoga Guru Patanjali Maharshi. The video had some speeches on yoga by Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder of the Art of Living Foundation.
